I found an existing drainage system in another part of the yard that I could tie into with a new run of drains. I decided that with these new drains and some grading of the back yard, I could rectify the problem and get the yard to void water succesfully and keep it from pooling near the foundation of the house.
The first thing I did was evaluate the yard right after a heavy rain. This gave me a clear idea of what the water was doing when it rained and what I could do to fix it.
